“We’re looking at very mild weather for Halloween. In some places, you could call it downright warm,” said AccuWeather’s lead long-range expert.
Your trick-or-treating forecast across America
Will the forecast be spooky for your Halloween?
The Halloween season is anything but spooky.
If Thursday’s forecast is correct, don’t panic if a “cowboy” or “skeleton” shows up on your doorstep wearing shorts.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures on Oct. 31 will be 15-20 degrees above normal, providing near-ideal conditions for costume parades, trunk or treat events and trick-or-treating in the Elmira and Corning areas.
Steuben and Cheming counties aren’t alone in catching the Halloween season break in 2024.
According to AccuWeather meteorologist, record breaking high temperature is likely in many areas of Northeast on October 31.
“We’re looking at very mild weather overall for Halloween. In some places, you could call it downright warm,” said AccuWeather’s lead long-range expert Paul Pestluk.
How high will the Halloween temperature go in Elmira, Corning?
Around the Elmira area, the National Weather Service said Halloween is expected to see a high of 78 with a mix of sun and clouds.
National Weather Service meteorologists say Corning’s daytime high will be around 79.
The National Weather Service predicts that the air will cool after sunset around 6 p.m., but thermometers won’t dip below 50 degrees.
While some rain is likely on Halloween, raindrops aren’t expected to dampen the fun: The heaviest showers will occur after 8 p.m., the National Weather Service said.
The chance of rain is 40% on Halloween Day and 90% on Halloween Night across the region.
The forecast indicates a big warm-up from last Halloween, when high temperatures were in the 40s and lows dipped into the 30s.
And about those shorts. AccuWeather’s Pastelok said despite the positive forecast, it’s still not a good idea.
Pastelok noted that it will cool down quickly after the sun goes down, especially if it’s windy.
“Bring an extra sweatshirt or jacket. Kids may want to add an extra layer under their clothing after dark,” she said.
