I consider myself a confident guy who doesn’t like to be turned around. For better or worse, I usually have my mind set when I make a decision. And when I present a technique, it is very difficult to change my mind.
Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving have always been the most special holidays for me, while as I get older Halloween moves down the power rankings in almost direct correlation with the turn of the calendar each year. But, as Luis García Jr finally breaks out in 2024, I feel the juice for Halloween this year.
This led my restless mind to write this article about what every Nationals starter should dress up for Halloween, with the offseason drive not yet on.
I will make this list by taking advantage of their characteristics, and also see if I can find anything in their personal life.
Enjoy? And maybe even debate? My take on Nationals Halloween:
C Cabaret Ruiz – Teddy Bear
Playing on a first name with the Nationals’ gift, Cabret Ruiz would be best suited as a teddy bear. Not only the name but also the lack of discipline and free spirit reminds me of the wide variety of bear food.
1B Andres Chapro – Bull
Chapro did me no favors with the Instagram page. While I admire his dedication to his craft, posting only baseball-related photos, it’s difficult to have an outfit that fits his personality, especially since he’s new to the organization. Chaparo reminds me of Bell with his aggressive leg kick and beautiful power.
2B Luis Garcia Jr. – Wanderer from Top Gun
The young second baseman gets one of the best costume picks of the year: Tom Crews as Maverick in TopGun. The hotshot young second baseman deserved it with his consistency last season, always with a smile on his face. Garcia finally broke through last season, as did Maverick in the second Top Gun movie.
3B Jose Tina – Spider-Man
It was a simple one. Tina gave me a lap with the spider with her name in her Instagram bio. The infielder with quick hands in the box and on the field allows him to make a good Spider-Man, with his left-handed stroke reminding me of Spider-Man slinging his webs from building to building in New York City.
SSCJ Abrams – Elaine
I’ll do my best not to kid myself about gambling, and focus on my favorite version, CJ Abrams: the All-Star. CJ rocks the alien chain and brings out-of-this-world skills to the batter’s box and on the basepaths when he’s at his best. A combination of power and speed that is truly rare in today’s game. If he plays his cards right, Abrams could win the entire pot for an alien costume at this year’s Halloween function.
LF James Wood – Shino (character in Naruto)
Let me make one thing clear: I am not an anime guy. But according to my insider, James Wood is a really big anime guy. One character that reminds me of Wood is Shino, a character who is relatively shy but mature beyond his years and rarely shows his emotions. Whatever makes James Wood happy, makes me happy, so I’m going to have to start watching Naruto and really see what Shino is all about.
CF Jacob Young – Jackrabbit
It’s a slam dunk. The fastest man in baseball, and the best defender in baseball, are all perfect for a Jackrabbit. His ability to jump on balls with his elite stolen base skulls makes a Jackrabbit the perfect fit.
RF Dillon Crew – Tiger
I try not to overcomplicate things, so former LSU standout and national champion Dylan Crews is a perfect fit for a Tiger. His power and speed mimic that of Tiger, in addition to his natural flow and unique ability to cover the basepaths and ground in the field.
DH Juan Yepez – Brennan Huff (half brother)
Juan Yepez just reminds me of Will Ferrell from Step Brothers. I wish I could give you some rigorous analysis as to why this is so, but I can’t find any. The Yippies seemed to boost the vibes on the roster by replacing Joey Meneses, and the Yippies liked to dance at second base like Brennan Huff. Maybe if I come up with a better reason why Yippees reminds me of stepbrother I can make it into the next movie.
