Anna Kendrick had some choice words for an unnamed director she had an “unique” experience with.
The “Pitch Perfect” star recalled the time a director once embarrassed her in front of 100 extras on a movie set during her recent appearance on Monday’s episode of Josh Horowitz’s “Happy Seed Confused” podcast. during
The incident happened when the filmmaker suggested him to improve one of his scenes.
After she was done, he showed he wasn’t moved by her mocking him, she revealed.
“I did it and then the director called the kit and came in and, again in front of 100 extras, it was like, ‘Ugh, let’s go back to the script!'” he recalled during the live taping.
The actress immediately labeled the situation as “a very specific power move”, saying the director’s intention was to “embarrass” and “dominate” her.
“It was very difficult,” added Kendrick, who recently made her directorial debut and starred in Netflix’s “Woman of the Hour.”
Despite the director’s scathing comments on its improvised scene, the moment was shown in the film’s trailer.
“And then what I improvised ended up in the trailer,” Kendrick said on the podcast. “So, you!”
In her new film, Kendrick portrays Cheryl Bradshaw – an unsuspecting woman who goes on a date with serial killer Rodney Alcala after starring in an episode of “The Dating Game.”
The film is based on the true story of Alcala, who was later recognized as a dating game killer.
Alcala, played by Daniel Zovato in the film, was arrested in 1979. Police linked him to the deaths of at least seven women, but he is believed to have killed 130 people.
He was convicted of murdering four women and a 12-year-old girl, but pleaded not guilty. Alcala was sentenced to death and died of natural causes on July 24, 2021, while on death row in California at the age of 77.
