Richard Durant is the leader of Nervena, an asset manager focused on spotting market dislocations that result from a poor understanding of a business’s long-term prospects. Narveena believes that additional risk-adjusted returns can be achieved by identifying businesses with secular growth opportunities in markets with barriers to entry. Narveena’s research process focuses on company and industry fundamentals with the aim of uncovering unique insights. Narvina has a high risk appetite and a long-term horizon, chasing stocks that are undervalued. Coverage is skewed toward small-cap stocks and markets where competitive advantages are unclear. Investments are driven by the belief that an aging population with declining population and stagnant growth in productivity will create opportunities different from those that have worked in the past. Many industries may experience stagnation or secular decline, which may intuitively improve business performance if competition is reduced. Conversely, other businesses may face rising costs and massive diseconomies of scale. In addition, economies are becoming increasingly dominated by asset-light businesses, and the need for infrastructure investment is diminishing over time. Consequently, a large pool of capital is chasing limited investment opportunities, driving up asset prices and reducing risk premia over time. Durant holds undergraduate degrees in Engineering and Finance from the University of Adelaide (Hons) and an MBA. from Nanyang Technological University (Dean’s Honors List). He has also passed the CFA exam.
